Frog Prince Reader's Theater Performances

Our class participated in the Global Read Aloud, in which we read the story "Marty McGuire" by Kate Messner (along with many other classrooms around North America and the world).  We loved so many things about this story.

One of the things we did, was write a book review and had it posted to our library site.  Here is what we said...

Marty McGuire is a big tomboy in grade 3 who likes to catch frogs. Another character, Veronica Grace, declares that she is the boss of recess. Their class puts on a play about the Frog Prince fairy tale. Mr. Jackson helps their class to act it out. Marty is the lead in the play and she has a big plan for making the play more exciting and spectacular. We thought it was funny when Sparky, the raccoon got stuck in a tree and bounced an acorn off of Marty's Mom's forehead. Through this book, we learned a little more about Jane Goodall. Probably, if you are close to grade 3, you will like this book. If you like comedies and books about frogs and adventures, then you should read this book.

Our teacher read us the picture book of "The Frog Prince" and another version called "The Frog Prince Continued" by Jon Scieszka.    We were put in groups and given a reader's theater script to practice with our group.  Today we got the opportunity to perform them for our class and tomorrow we will perform them for other classes.

Here are the videos!  We hope you enjoy them!

 We were wondering...

Have you heard "The Frog Prince" or "The Frog Prince Continued" stories before?
Have you ever done reader's theater before?  If you have, what story did you do?

Halloween Fun

Halloween has come and gone and all that is left is candy waiting to be eaten!

All week we had been looking at some Wonderopolis wonders.  We checked out...
     ~ What is a Jack O' Lantern?
~ What's Your Favourite Halloween Costume?
~ Why Do You Say "Trick or Treat"?

For the morning we did other Halloween related activities.

Our spelling activity had us taking the word "HALLOWEEN" and trying to make other words using those letters.  Some of the words we found included: new, hello, wall, when, whale, low, we and now.

In math, we've been working on writing equations with an unknown to solve problems.  We were given some problems involving Halloween situations.  We worked on them by ourselves to start with.  We were able to use tools, such as a number line or bread ties, to help us.  After we were done, instead of marking them, our teacher had us work with a partner to check our answers.  If we didn't have the same answer, we talked about how we came up with our answer and tried to figure out who was right.

This student was even able to write the whole fact family for each problem...wow!

In the afternoon, we were FINALLY allowed to change into our costumes. Here we are...

We got to attend the Kindergarten to Grade 3 costume parade.  It was so awesome to see everyone's costumes!  We then ended our assembly by dancing to a couple of songs.  Our favourite was "Calling All the Monsters".

What a wonderful day!

We were wondering...

How did you celebrate Halloween in your school or classroom?
What did you dress up as?
